Dear Saka and classmates in Japan,

My excuse for writing to you and my friends in Japan's Pacific Coast is "taifuu mimai". You have a good chance of being hit by a huge one on Sunday or Monday.

During my stay in Tokyo --July 1-24 I experienced two small earthquakes and two typhoons.  The typhoons were more (media) hot air than actual rain and wind.  But I am surprised not much is being said about Typhoon #13 yet.

This brings me up to the subject of the day.  One of my favorite web-sites is www.tenki.jp   where I follow earthquakes and typhoons in Japan.  For the last four days, I have been tracking Typhoon #13

I am sure that our friends in Japan will be flooded with TV coverage about it starting from tomorrow but it is one of the best articulated (clear swirl and visibe "eye")storms that I have seen in quite a while.  It is huge and is likely to hit Nagoya area give or take a few hundred kilometers to the east or west on Sunday or early Monday.

Unlike the typhoons last July, this looks very serious so please be vigilant.  And of course no beach plans this weekend, except to watch huge waves, if you fancy natural phenomenon.

  Kikuchi

PS  For those who have not yet visited the site, I recommend www.tenki.jp Go to Taifu joho.  Also more interesting are images of himawari satellite.
